HUNTINGTON — A local woman was arrested after the car she was riding in crashed into a downtown Huntington nightclub early Sunday morning.

Kashawna Kristen Elkins, 23, of Huntington was arrested by officers with the Huntington Police Department and charged with disorderly conduct following the incident that happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Elkins allegedly grabbed the steering wheel of the car while in the passenger’s seat, causing the driver of the vehicle to lose control before crashing into the V Club, located in the 700 block of 6th Avenue, according to Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial.

Dial said according to the incident report, the driver claimed that Elkins was intoxicated and became mad when the driver didn’t follow friends to another location.

“The driver was not cited, but the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

Patrick Guthrie, owner of the V Club, estimated the damages to the building to be at least $25,000.

“The car plowed into the side of the building and there was significant damage,” he said.

Guthrie estimated it would take four to five days to repair the building.

“We are hoping to be back open by the weekend,” he said.
