BICYCLING BUTTIGIEG

WASHINGTON (AP) — You’ve heard about influence peddlers on Capitol Hill. But a member of Joe Biden’s cabinet is getting attention for being a pedaling influence. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been spotted making his way around in Washington D.C. on a bicycle. It started a few weeks ago when Buttigieg decided to skip the ride home in the back seat of a black SUV. Instead he yanked a bicycle from a bike-share rack, donned a helmet — and pedaled the mile-long route home to his Capitol Hill area apartment. Two Secret Service agents flanked him. This past Thursday, Buttigieg arrived at the White House on a two-wheeler. Buttigieg has also been spotted in area dog parks, chatting with everyone from children to fellow members of Congress.

MMA FIGHTER LOSES FINGER DURING MATCH, HAS IT REATTACHED

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A mixed martial arts fighter ended up being handed a victory — after his opponent had his finger torn off during the match. The good news — a doctor was able to reattach the lost digit. It happened last Thursday, when Khetag Pliev was injured during the second round of his fight with Devin Goodale. The referee stopped the round after noticing Pliev was missing his left ring finger. Pliev says Goodale caught his glove with one hand and he felt his finger snap. He says he wanted to keep fighting, but the referee wouldn’t let him. It took several minutes of searching to find the finger, which ended up stuck inside Pliev’s own glove. Doctors say he may need another procedure to repair the finger, now that it’s been reattached.
