Letter to the editor: ‘I approve this message’ a dumb political statement
Some politicians won’t get my vote just because of their ignorance. Yes, it crosses all party lines, ages and sexes. I’m speaking of political TV and radio advertisements. It’s not the ads themselves but rather one stupid phrase they say after speaking through the whole ad: “I approve this message.” Would they use their voices and video of themselves if they didn’t approve the messages they’re saying? It’s as stupid as me saying to the editor of this paper, “I approve this letter to the editor.”
Editor’s note: The Stand by Your Ad provision of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 requires these approval statements. The act ws sponsored by former Sens. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., and the late John McCain.
