Kansas City police: Teen dies at hospital after being shot
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A teenager has died after being shot several blocks south of Swope Park Campus in Kansas City, police there said.
Officers were called to the area around 7 p.m. Tuesday for reports of someone on the ground experiencing a medical emergency, police said in a news release. Medics who also arrived on the scene determined the teen had been shot and rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police later identified the victim as 17-year-old Kaleb Martin. Police said they did not immediately have any suspects in the case.
The teen’s death marked Kansas City’s 150th homicide of the year, according to records kept by the Kansas City Star. That compared with 182 homicides for all of 2020, the deadliest in the city’s history.
