Chadron woman files civil suit against Chadron State, alleging negligence
CHADRON — A Chadron woman has filed a civil lawsuit against Chadron State College, alleging she suffered injuries in a fall on its campus.
According to the complaint filed in Dawes County Court, Marry Ann Wess is seeking $57,876.74 and ongoing costs for medical expenses, disability and additional costs for pain and suffering, including mental anquish.
In the complaint, Wess alleges that she had been attending an event at the Vern Chicoine Event Center located on Chadron State College on Feb. 12. She was descending a set of metal stairs in the stands and a portion of the stair came loose or gave way, causing her to fall and suffer personal injuries.
The woman alleges that Chadron State College was negligent in failing to inspect, maintain and repair the material on the stairs and filed to restrict access to the area of damage.
The suit was filed on July 24, according to records.
Wess is represented by Andrew Snyder, a Scottsbluff attorney.
