Celebrate Tolkien Reading Day at Briggs Libraries on March 25

March 22, 2018 GMT

Briggs Lawrence County Public Library would like to encourage you to check out the works of J.R.R. Tolkien in time for Tolkien Reading Day on March 25. Upstart says that the day celebrates the downfall of Sauron and the fall of Barad-dur in the “Lord of the Rings.” The “Lord of the Rings” is fantasy, and the story began as a sequel to “The Hobbit” and became one of the best-selling novels.

To end out Youth Art Month, National Pencil Day is March 30, and National Crayon Day is March 31, according to the National Day Calendar. Pencils.com says the eraser-topped pencil is 160 years old, so let let your imagination go wild, and create pencil sketches. In 1903, according to the National Day Calendar, Binney & Smith started manufacturing wax crayons for children, although some form of a crayon has been used for centuries. Explore all of the colors in your crayon box, and try some fun experiments. If you need inspiration, Briggs Library has a multitude of drawing books to be checked out.
