Expo gears up for bridal season
HUNTINGTON — Hundreds of lucky brides traveled to downtown Huntington Sunday to kick off their wedding planning at a one-stop wedding vendor expo featuring some of the Tri-State’s biggest and best wedding experts.
The WKEE Bridal Expo, which celebrated its 28th year Sunday at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, each year brings together bridal and formal wear fashions alongside dozens of wedding-specific vendors specializing in every aspect of a couple’s big day.
Jennifer Seay and Dave Roberts, hosts of the KEE 100 Morning Show, said despite road conditions being a bit icy at the start of the expo, a good crowd still attended the event.
“You know it’s the kickoff to bridal season really,” Seay said. “Even if it’s been bad weather, people still come out because they know that they don’t have to scour the Tri-State area themselves and try to find these people, and we bring them all to one place.”
A fashion show featuring local bridal boutiques always highlights the event, Roberts said.
“Our fashion show is always a huge deal,” he said. “A lot of people come out even just to see the fashion show.”
Roberts said the door prizes and games add to the want for couples to attend the event. Thousands of dollars prizes were given away, including a trip to Myrtle Beach and a cruise. Vendors also gave the couples freebies and gave away prizes of their own.
Last year, 495 brides attended the expo, with hundreds more of family, friends and spouses joining them. The duo said they believe the numbers would be the same, if not better for 2019.
Grooms were offered a special room of their own, featuring food from Texas Roadhouse, 7-Up of South Point and Herr’s Potato Chips. Afternoon college and professional sporting events were also played on a big screen.
Three grooms also got the chance to dig into a three-tiered cake from Paula Vega to win great prizes ranging from gun range time at Bare Arms in Huntington to jewelry from C.F. Reuschlein Jewelers.
