New yoga class merges spirituality and music

HUNTINGTON — When students enter Studio 8 Yoga and Wellness on Saturday mornings they typically expect to hear ambient tunes or chanting, but this Saturday, Jeannie Harrison has a new plan. She is launching Yoga Folks, a community of yogis who love great music, according to a news release.

This community class is a demonstration of one expected to be offered weekly at Studio 8, a class where students might hear anything from Led Zeppelin to Lady Gaga, and which will routinely host live musicians. This is one of the many donation-only classes being taught at Studio 8 during the month of February to raise money for the yoga program at Recovery Point and HER Place.

The community class will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. Donations are appreciated.

Folk Yoga is a step outside the norm for Harrison, who routinely teaches meditative and spiritual classes.

“It started when my students at Golden Girl Group Home requested Kesha during our final meditation,” Harrison said in a news release.
