Exercise is good for your health

I did not appreciate the column by Mr. Kevin McKeever on gyms and exercise. (“Another year, another gym membership,” Jan. 13.)

Research shows that exercise prevents heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Exercise prevents deconditioning in all ages. Exercise can add 10 GOOD years to your life.

Gyms offer the opportunity for a healthier lifestyle.

Annually at The Tully Health and Fitness Center we have approximately 4,000 people exercising and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center has 400 patients exercising.

In the City of Stamford we have a heart healthy community and to insinuate that gym memberships are a scam is a disservice to the public. It is our goal to prevent hospital admissions and to promote a positive healthy life style.
