Man sought in deaths of wife, her daughter slain by police
DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit man wanted in connection with the Christmas Day slayings of his 57-year-old wife and her 13-year-old daughter has been fatally shot by police searching for him.
Dwayne McDonald, 62, was killed Tuesday in an apartment a few miles north of downtown, Police Chief James White told reporters.
Officers knocked on the apartment’s door and announced themselves before forcibly entering in, White said.
A shot was fired, and police then fired on McDonald who died at the scene, White added.
Police found two other people in the apartment Tuesday. One helped police determine McDonald’s whereabouts, according to the chief.
McDonald was believed to have been in hiding since Saturday’s shooting. The bodies of his wife and her adoptive daughter w ere found at their home by relatives arriving for Christmas dinner.
White has said the girl had “developmental disabilities” and used a wheelchair. McDonald was not her father.
After the slayings, Detroit police described McDonald as a person of interest that they wanted speak to.
