Armored car guard wounded during Los Angeles-area robbery

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — An armored car guard was shot and wounded Monday in Los Angeles County by robbers who fled with an undisclosed amount of money, authorities said.

The guard had parked the Loomis armored car to pick up money at a Bank of America in the Harbor City area, south of downtown Los Angeles near Carson. He was walking back to the car at about 11:15 a.m. when at least two masked confronted him, the county Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

At least one suspect began shooting, hitting the guard several times in his legs, and the robbers then fled in a black sedan, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The guard, who was armed but didn’t shoot during the holdup, was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a hospital.

The robbery came less than a month after a guard was shot and wounded in a failed armored truck robbery in Carson.

The Sheriff’s Department said that on Sept. 27, two people ambushed the truck near a 7-Eleven store and one of the guards was shot before the robbers fled with a third person in a getaway car.

The guard was treated at a hospital. Nothing was taken from the truck and no arrests have been made.

The Sheriff’s Department statement didn’t indicate whether investigators believe the two attacks may be connected.
