UML Falls to Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The UMass Lowell baseball team fell 5-1 to Wake Forest in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday night.

The River Hawks’ (2-6) lone run came in the fifth inning, which began with a Michael Young leadoff walk. After an Austin Young single, Young came around to score on a fielder’s choice.

Joey Castellanos picked up the other hit for the visitors, while Michael Young drew three walks on the night.

Wake Forest (4-6) took a 3-0 with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, then added single runs in the third and fifth, before scoring three in the eighth.

Game two is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. Andrew Ryan will take the hill for UMass Lowell.
