North William Street in Ludington to become one-way
The block of North William Street by House of Flavors will become a one-way street, the Ludington City Council decided Monday.
The council approved changing the traffic flow to make one block of North William Street — between Ludington Avenue and West Court Street — a northbound, one-way street for vehicles. At the intersection of William and Court streets, Court Street will be a through-street for traffic.
The goal of the change is to make traffic safer for vehicles and pedestrians.
House of Flavors’ semi-trucks have routinely driven south on William Street from the manufacturing facility, and there are often many people trying to park at the House of Flavors restaurant, Councilor Kathy Winczewski said. House of Flavors has agreed with the city to have its trucks drive north now instead, she said. She added that many local drivers typically only go northbound on William Street already because they know about the angled parking there.
“But the tourists sometimes drive the other way, and it gets to be really dangerous,” she said.
