Franz to seek Michigan Senate seat
Ray Franz, former 101st District representative, announced to the Ludington City Council Monday that he will seek election to the 35th District State Senate seat currently held by Darwin Booher, R-Evart.
Booher will reach the end of his term limit in 2018. He was first elected to the 35th District Senate seat in 2010.
Franz, who served as state representative for six years, originally hails from Detroit. After serving in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, he moved to Manistee County, where he ran a grocery business.
Before joining the House of Representatives, he served on the Onekama Village Council and as the council president.
Franz is running on a platform of small government values and cutting state spending.
The 35th District covers Mason, Manistee, Lake and other northern Michigan counties.
