Counterfeit case has person of interest

March 23, 2019 GMT

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Police Department has confirmed a “person of interest” in a counterfeit money case but no arrests have been made, according to Sgt. Jason Williams.

The two counterfeit incidents were Wednesday morning at two Scottville convenience stores. Williams would not say at what two stores this incidents happened.

“There was foreign writing on the bills,” Williams said.

Williams added it was “possibly Chinese or Japanese writing” on the $100 bills. The incident remains under investigation.

On whether or not these instances are related to instances of fake $100 bills being passed recently in Manistee County, Williams said he was unsure of a relationship. Earlier this month, the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office handled a pair of complaints from local businesses where the fake $100 bills were labeled “for motion picture use only” instead of “The United States of America.”
