TOWNSEND -- A teenager suffered a traumatic lower-arm injury in a fireworks explosion on Ryan Road Thursday night, according to police.

The male in his late teens was transported via medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Another male in his late teens suffered minor injuries, and was treated at a local hospital.

The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. at 13 Ryan Road.

“It’s best to leave fireworks to the experts,” Townsend Police Chief Rick Bailey said Friday morning. “Even small ones can do damage.”

Bailey on Friday did not have an update on the teenager who suffered the traumatic injury.

The incident remains under investigation, Bailey said.

State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey emailed Halloween safety tips on Friday. He stated that fireworks are dangerous and illegal in Massachusetts.

“The (state) ban includes firecrackers, cherry bombs and party poppers,” the state fire marshal said in a statement.
