TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — An employee of a Massachusetts hospital was stabbed multiple times during an unprovoked attack and the alleged assailant remains on the loose, police said.

The worker at Morton Hospital in Taunton was outside on a break on Tuesday afternoon when a woman approached her from behind and stabbed her several times, Taunton police said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The victim, a 44-year-old woman, told police her attacker pulled her ponytail and punched her several times in the back, according to a separate statement from Chief Edward Walsh. She said it felt like she was being stuck with something as she was being punched.

The worker went back inside and told a colleague about the attack, and upon further examination, it was determined that she had multiple puncture wounds on her shoulders and neck.

She was treated at the hospital and discharged.

Police also released a surveillance image of the suspect taken by the victim on her cellphone and asked anyone who recognizes the person to contact the detective division.

The victim said she did not recognize her assailant.

Police did not disclose the victim’s job.

An email was left with a spokesperson for the hospital.
