CLEVELAND, Ohio – “Creed” breathed new life into the “Rocky” franchise two years ago and will look to continue its epic run this November.

The trailer for the much-anticipated sequel, directed by Cleveland’s own Steven Caple Jr., shows Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), son of Apollo Creed, struggling to balance personal obligations with his career as a professional boxer.

Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is once again in his corner. However, the big selling point for “Creed 2” is that Adonis’ rival will be Viktor Drago, song of Ivan Drago, the Russian who killed Apollo Creed in “Rocky IV.”

It’s a complicated history, but one the filmmakers will look to ride to financial success. “Creed” made over $170 million at the box office.

Original director Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther”) and producer Stallone handed the directing duties over to Caple Jr. in late 2017.

“Creed 2” marks the biggest film of the Cleveland native’s career. Caple Jr. directed 2016′s “The Land” (shot in Cleveland) in 2016 and was named to Forbes’ list of the “30 Under 30 in Hollywood & Entertainment” last year.

“Creed 2” opens in theaters on Nov. 21.
