St. Louis officer injured after robbery suspect fires at him
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (AP) — A police officer was injured after being shot at by a robbery suspect in a south St. Louis neighborhood.
The officer suffered an injury near his eye Friday evening, possibly from broken glass, and was taken to a hospital, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. But he was not seriously injured, police said.
Police attempted to pull over a driver they say was wanted for robbery. The driver sped away, crashed the car, then got out and began firing at officers, Police Chief John Hayden said Friday during a news conference outside a local hospital.
Officers returned fire but did not hit the suspect, Hayden said. The suspect was taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.
