Michael Moore’s anti-Trump ‘Fahrenheit 11/9’ tanks opening weekend

Michael Moore’s anti-Trump “Fahrenheit 11/9” had a rough opening weekend with an eighth-place showing.

The left-wing documentary filmmaker whose “Fahrenheit 9/11” grossed over $220 million worldwide in 2004 will not duplicate that success with his latest outing. Mr. Moore’s lampooning of Mr. Trump, which likens him to Adolf Hitler toward the project’s ending, pulled in $3.1 million from more than 1,700 theaters.

“Never in American history has a president kept more of his promises in his first two years in office,” Mr. Moore says during the film’s conclusion. “Not the promises he made to the voters, but the promises he made to his fellow billionaires and the ruling class. A record tax cut for the rich passed. Obamacare dead. Banking regulations either weakened or removed. ... And he’s building that wall.”

Tracking for “Fahrenheit 11/9” estimated it would debut with an opening between $5 million to $6 million, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

Universal’s “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” starring comedian Jack Black, took the top spot with a $26.85 million domestic haul.
