Tim Scott gets starring role in VP debate — for a moment

U.S. Sen. Tim Scott’s series of emotional speeches on race relations and law enforcement in American became the subject of brief discussion during the vice presidential debate Tuesday evening.

Elaine Quijano, a CBS News anchor and debate moderator, asked Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana and Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia — the vice presidential nominees on the Republican and Democratic tickets, respectively — what they would say to Scott, a South Carolina Republican and one of only two black lawmakers serving in the Senate, in response to his remarks that he’s experienced “anger, frustration, sadness and the humiliation that comes with feeling like you are being targeted for nothing more than just being yourself.”
