Woman suffers injuries after driving vehicle into power pole

A 42-year-old Ludington woman suffered injuries after the vehicle she was driving left the road, hit a power pole head-on and rolled. The impact of the vehicle caused the pole to snap and lean on top of power lines.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. Monday near Melendy and Staffon streets.

The driver was traveling east on Melendy Street when her vehicle left the road and hit the pole for an unknown reason, according to the Ludington Police Department.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 51-year-old Ludington man, only suffered minor scratches and bruises, according to police.

The driver and passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle, police said.

The driver was transported by Life EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for her injuries, according to police.

No alcohol was involved and drugs are unknown at this time, police said.

The Ludington Police Department, Ludington Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Life EMS and Consumers Energy all responded to the scene.
