Jake Matheny, son of Cardinals manager, commits to Mizzou
Jake Matheny, son of Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, committed to join the Missouri baseball team, he announced on Twitter.
Matheny, a catcher like his father, began his college career at Indiana then transferred to San Jacinto Junior College last summer. He plans to arrive at Mizzou next fall and play for the Tigers in 2019.
At Indiana, Matheny appeared in 32 games last season and made 26 starts, hitting .245 with two home runs, both in his first college game, and 17 RBI. As a senior at Westminster Christian Academy, Matheny was the Post-Dispatch player of the year and Class 4 first-team all-state selection in 2016 after hitting .414 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs.
