Mariners’ Ichiro Suzuki didn’t know who Tom Brady was

Ageless wonder Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners once received a text from New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and Suzuki didn’t know who Brady was.

The anecdote is included in a profile of Suzuki by Peter Gammons of The Athletic.

Suzuki recounted that one morning in 2017 at spring training, he was checking his text messages when he got a note from someone asking him about his stretching routine. The guy said he got his number from Alex Rodriguez.

Suzuki didn’t recognize the guy. One of his coaches asked for the guy’s name, and Suzuki replied: “Some guy named Tom Brady. Who the f— is Tom Brady?”

Suzuki, who is 44, won’t play the rest of this year and is changing roles to take a new front office job with the organization, according to USAToday.
