Mariners pregame: Felix Hernandez takes mound as Seattle continues road trip in Detroit
The Mariners continue their 10-game, 11-day road trip to three cities with the first of three games against the Detroit Tigers.
The Mariners come off a four-game series at Oakland. The M’s fell in the first three games before they snapped the losing streak on Sunday when they routed the Athletics 11-1. The Tigers arrive back in Detroit after taking the series, 2-1, against the Minnesota Twins.
Felix Hernandez will take the mound on Tuesday against the Tigers. His history with the Tigers could give the M’s a needed advantage in Comerica Park. Hernandez has a 2.48 ERA agianst the Tigers, the third-lowest ERA against any single opponent in at least 50 innings. Since 2005, Hernandez’s 2.48 ERA is the lowest ERA against the Tigers among active players who have pitched against Detroit in at least 75 innings. His nine wins over Detroit are the fifth-most against any single opponent.
