Anaconda man struck, killed by motorist in heavy rain
BUTTE — A motorist driving in heavy rain struck a 77-year-old man walking across a street in Anaconda early Monday morning, killing him, the Montana Highway Patrol said.
The name of the victim was not released later Monday morning, but he was from Anaconda, the patrol said. The driver was a 37-year-old man from Pensacola, Florida, but his name was not released either.
The accident occurred at 2:25 a.m. at the intersection of East Park Avenue and Main Street during heavy rain, troopers said. The driver said the light was green and he did not see the man until he was only a foot or two away and tried to swerve and miss him.
But his Chevy Trailblazer struck hit the man on the passenger side, troopers said. It did not appear that drugs, alcohol or speed was a factor.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
