FRENCHTOWN — Ryne Nelson has been hired as the new head football coach for Frenchtown High School.

School officials made the announcement on Thursday. Nelson’s hiring will be recommended to the school board on May 9.

He replaces Rich Ferris, who was the Broncs head coach for 2015 and 2016. Ferris is leaving Frenchtown to become the high school principal in Thompson Falls.

Nelson was the defensive coordinator for Frenchtown last season and is currently the boys track coach.

A 2005 graduate of Valier, Nelson was a running back and linebacker for Montana State-Northern. He previously was an assistant football coach for Chester-Joplin-Inverness, along with being a track coach and activities director for CJI. Nelson came to Frenchtown in 2015.
