September 19, 2018 GMT

Beatrice High School’s homecoming week officially kicked off Monday night with the first annual Powder-Puff football game.

Members of the Beatrice Cheer team squared off against Beatrice senior girls in a flag football game at the House of Orange.

Spectators at the game were asked to pay $3 admission or bring in a gently used coat to get in for free. All proceeds from the game went towards purchasing coats for kids.

Two twenty minute halves were played with a special half time performance from the Beatrice Boogie Boys.

Addy Timmerman electrified the crowd by scoring the game’s first touchdown on a reverse play from 40 yards out in the first half, giving the cheer squad an early lead.

Concessions were sold at the event and News Channel Nebraska’s Bryan Cook handled public address duties in the press box.

It’s the first of several events being held leading up to Friday night’s homecoming game against York.

There will be a homecoming pep rally Wednesday at Indian Creek Mall at 8 p.m. It will feature an introduction of senior athletes, top five student and staff royalty, dance and cheer performances as well as a staff/student pie eating contest. Also, 100 free mini Runzas will be given away

Students at Beatrice High School are also having themes for each day of the week. Tuesday was farmer’s day, Wednesday is PJ Day, Thursday is Throwback Day and Friday is spirit day in which all students are encouraged to wear school colors.

The Orangemen will then try to notch their first win of the season Friday night against a tough York team. Despite being 2-2, York is ranked No. 4 in Class B with their only two losses coming to No. 1 McCook and No. 2 Omaha Skutt.

At the conclusion of the game, the 2018 Homecoming Coronation will take place.
