18 people shot, 6 killed, during bloody New Orleans weekend
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Authorities are investigating one of the bloodiest weekends in recent memory in New Orleans.
Eighteen people had been shot by dawn on Monday, police said. Six of the victims were killed, The Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reported. A 14-year-old was among the wounded.
As of late Monday, police had not announced any arrests.
Much of the violence was in Algiers, where four of the six slayings occurred. There’s no indication that any of the Algiers shootings are connected, New Orleans police spokesman Aaron Looney said.(backslash)
The rash of shootings were reported by police in a 72-hour-period from 7 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday.
