OLB Mack, WR Robinson inactive for Chicago Bears

October 28, 2018 GMT

Bears OLB Khalil Mack (ankle) and WR Allen Robinson (groin) will not play today vs. the Jets at Soldier Field because of injuries that have kept them from practicing for most of the past two weeks.

Both played last week but were far from 100 percent. Mack, who had five sacks and four forced fumbles in the first four games, failed to get one of either last week against the Patriots for the second straight game. Aaron Lynch, who is tied for third on the team with two sacks, is expected to start in place of Mack, and rookie sixth-round pick OLB Kyle Fitts will be active for the first time this season.

The Bears led the NFL with 18 sacks in September, but with Mack at less than 100 percent the past two weeks, they have just one sack in October.

Robinson, who like Mack is a five-year veteran, suffered his injury Oct. 14 against the Dolphins, the same game as the outside linebacker. While Robinson played last week, he was limited to one catch for four yards on five targets, his least productive game of the season. Robinson, who missed all but three snaps last season because of a torn ACL in the season opener, is third on the Bears with 25 receptions and fourth with 285 receiving yards. He’s tied for second on the team with two touchdowns.

With Robinson limited last week, TE Trey Burton had career bests of nine catches and 126 yards. In addition, previously forgotten WR Kevin White, who is listed behind Robinson on the depth chart, got his first two targets of the season. He responded with two catches for 64 yards, including a 54-yard Hail Mary as time expired that came up a yard short of what would have been a potentially game-tying touchdown.

OLG Eric Kush (neck) is also inactive for the Bears, so rookie second-round draft pick James Daniels will get his first NFL start. Kush and Daniels have shared the LG spot for the previous three games, alternating series.

Among the Bears other inactives are CB Marcus Cooper (groin), who will miss his fifth straight game, even though he was removed from the injury report after returning to full practice last week. FB Michael Burton is also inactive, as is OL Rashaad Coward and DT Nick Williams.

The Jets will be without their top two wide receivers, Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa, both of whom are out with ankle injuries. Starting CB Trumaine Johnson (quad) and backup CB Derrick Jones are also out for the Jets, as are LB Kevin Pierre-Louis, OG Dakota Dozier and DL Folorunso Fatukasi.
