New Hampshire Legislature protects display of mottos
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The New Hampshire Legislature has voted to protect the ability of schools to display the national and state mottos.
The House passed a bill in April specifying that the state can’t prohibit schools or school districts from displaying the national “In God We Trust” motto. The Senate later amended the bill to add the state motto, “Live Free or Die,” and the House went along with that change on Thursday.
Rep. Deborah Hobson, a Republican from East Kingston, said passing the bill sends the message that “We in New Hampshire are proud of our history, our heritage and our faith.”
