Police say Norfolk man tried to entice 12-year-old girl via Facebook
A Norfolk man has been arrested in connection with an attempt through Facebook to lure someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl into a possible sexual relationship.
Norfolk police said they took a report Aug. 3 about electronic enticement of a minor.
A 12-year-old girl who was attempting to sell a swimsuit on Facebook was contacted by an adult man, police said. The girl told her mother about the contact and the mother took over the text conversation with the man.
During the conversation, police said, the man offered to bring marijuana to the girl’s home and made sexual comments to her. The man also asked the girl to visit his residence for a drink and “to see what happens.”
Police said the 24-year-old man was identified through his Facebook account. Norfolk investigators worked with Facebook to preserve evidence of the electronic conversation.
Wednesday, detectives interviewed the man and he was then arrested on suspicion of sexual assault — use of an electronic communication device.
