Man drowns when boat overturns on Oklahoma City lake
A man drowned after the small boat he was on overturned in high winds on Lake Overholser on the city’s west side, according to the Oklahoma City fire department.
Firefighters were called shortly after 6 p.m. Friday and found a police officer trying to help the man, who was face down in the water near the lake’s dam, according to Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson.
Firefighters helped the police officer from the water and the fire department’s dive team recovered the man’s body. The man’s name has not been released.
The National Weather Service reports wind speeds of 22 mph (35 kph) and gusts of 31 mph (50 kph) in Oklahoma City shortly before 6 p.m.
