“Person of interest” probed in Old Greenwich burglaries
GREENWICH — Town police are stepping up patrols in Old Greenwich and are working with other police agencies in probing a “person of interest” in a number of local burglaries.
A homeowner on Tomac Road contacted police Tuesday morning at 2:15 a.m. about a prowler in the area. The incident followed two early-morning burglaries and an attempted break-in late last week around Shore Road in Old Greenwich.
According to police spokesman Lt. David Nemecek, the resident saw suspicious activity. “He saw a flashlight on the (Innis Arden) golf course, then he saw a subject looking into a window,” said the lieutenant.
Greenwich police searched the area, and Stamford cops detained a potential suspect.
“We’re working with Stamford and other jurisdictions to determine if (he) is involved at all,” the lieutenant said.
The burglaries in Greenwich last week involved entries into unlocked houses while residents were asleep. A number of personal items, along with purses and cash, were stolen.
Police have called on community residents to lock their doors at night and boost home security.
The department has been adding nighttime patrols in the neighborhood.
