Driver led police chase, crashed in Old Greenwich
GREENWICH — A motorist was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving a stolen car, leading police on a pursuit and crashing the vehicle into a residential property in Old Greenwich.
Mohamud Deria, 44, of Wooddale Drive, Unionville, is facing numerous criminal charges following the 3 a.m. police pursuit, which began when officers observed a “suspicious” vehicle driving down a dead-end street in Riverside, according to the arrest report.
When an officer approached, the car “took off at a high rate of speed,” authorities said. Deria eventually crashed the car into a front lawn.
Police determined that the car had been stolen in Hartford, and Deria was in possession of a wallet also stolen from the car’s owner.
Deria was charged with two counts of larceny, reckless driving, engaging in a police pursuit and driving with a suspended license.
He is currently being held in police custody in lieu of $25,000 bail.
