Crash just north of Twin Cities kills 1 driver, injures another
A two-vehicle crash north of the metro area Tuesday killed one person, injured another and had the highway closed for a few hours, authorities said.
The wreck occurred late in the morning commute on Hwy. 47 at County Road 5 about 8 miles north of St. Francis, according to the Isanti County Sheriffs Office.
The highway was closed while a medical helicopter landed on the highway, according to the Sheriffs Office. The highway reopened about 11:50 a.m., once the on-scene investigation was complete and wreckage was moved.
Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson said that one driver died at the scene. The other driver was airlifted to Mercy [Hospital in Coon Rapids], but was alert.
Authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances leading to the crash, and the drivers identities have yet to be released.
