North Platte Eagles Club to paint bull statue pink

November 25, 2017 GMT

North Platte Eagles Club members will paint a bull pink on Saturday.

The fiberglass Hereford usually sits on Jerry Alexander’s lawn at 1405 E. Sixth St. It will be painted to raise breast cancer awareness in the community.

Alexander said his in-laws bought the bull about 45 years ago, and he has had it for nine years since taking it to do repairs.

The painting of the bull is part of a challenge Alexander issued to the local Eagles Club to raise $5,000 for charity. The money raised will go to the American Cancer Society at the request of Eagles state President Hoyt Williams, also of North Platte.

“I challenged our club, and Hoyt jumped right on it,” Alexander said.

With the $5,000 raised, Eagles members will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Club to paint Alexander’s bull bright pink.

Alexander said the club is enthusiastic about doing a similar challenge in coming years.

“It’ll be there (in my yard) for about a year, until some other event,” Alexander said. “Or it’ll just go back to being a Hereford.”
