Texas man injures officer, then kills self after standoff
PLANO, Texas (AP) — A 60-year-old man injured a police officer in a Dallas suburb after opening fire at an apartment complex and then killed himself following a standoff, authorities said.
The officer had gone to the apartments in Plano on Thursday to conduct a welfare check, police said. The officer was in his patrol car when he was shot.
Police said the man then ignored requests by crisis negotiators to come out of his apartment. Police said that after several hours, the man emerged from his apartment holding a gun and shot himself.
No shots were fired by officers during the incident, police said.
The officer is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
