December 30, 2020 GMT

BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — The knife-wielding man fatally shot by Brockton police responding to a domestic violence call earlier this week has been publicly identified by authorities as a Boston man.

Bryan Cruz-Soto, 28, of the city’s Dorchester neighborhood, was shot Monday afternoon, the Plymouth district attorney’s office said Tuesday.

Cruz-Soto was wearing a GPS-monitoring device as a condition of his release in an open criminal case in Suffolk County, prosecutors said.

Police went to the Brockton home after getting a call from an 11-year-old child who reported that two relatives were fighting.

“Upon arrival, two Brockton police officers encountered a male outside the home armed with a knife,” District Attorney Timothy Cruz said at a news conference Tuesday. “There was gunfire and the armed man was hit, he was subsequently transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

The names of the officers involved have not been released. The shooting remains under investigation.
