January 10, 2022 GMT

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say a man is dead and two SWAT officers were recovering from gunshot wounds after a pre-dawn shootout during the service of a search warrant in a murder investigation.

Capt. Nicholas Farese said in a video briefing that the exchange of gunfire happened just after 5 a.m. Monday at a residence several miles southeast of downtown.

No names were immediately made public.

The two officers were hospitalized with unspecified injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Farese did not provide details of the murder investigation but said it stemmed from a November incident.

The fatal police shooting was the second in Las Vegas in less than a week.

On Thursday, a man who police said charged at officers with a knife was shot and killed by a veteran police officer investigating a report of a burglary in a residential area of southeast Las Vegas.

Officer Jason Guerra, 40, a Las Vegas police officer since 2005, was on paid leave pending completion of departmental and district attorney reviews of the shooting.

Department officials were due to provide details Monday of that incident.
