Brief power outage affects thousands of Portage customers
A brief power outage Tuesday morning in Portage left a couple of thousand customers without power before Alliant Energy technicians rebooted the downed systems.
Alliant Energy spokeswoman Annemarie Newman said the outage was caused by an equipment failure while the company was conducting maintenance on its system.
Newman said about 2,100 customers -- both homes and businesses -- were affected by the outage, which lasted less than an hour.
Parts of the east side of Portage were affected.
The outage began at 8:59 a.m. Newman said half of the affected customers had their power restored by 9:30 a.m. All other customers had working power by 9:40 a.m.
