Candidate forums set for August

July 8, 2018 GMT

BULLHEAD CITY — At least two public candidate forums are planned in Bullhead City prior to the Aug. 28 primary election.

A debate-style forum featuring Bullhead City mayoral candidates Tom Brady and Jerry Duvall is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on July 21, at Herbert J. Haenel VFW Post 10005, 1611 Marble Canyon Drive in Bullhead City.

The event is open to the public. The bar will be closed during the debate and no smoking will be allowed in the facility during the session, which is expected to include questions from the public on important issues.

Brady, the incumbent, and Duvall, a former Bullhead City councilmember, will be on the Aug. 28 primary ballot with the winner earning a four-year term as the city’s top elected official.

Bullhead Opting Out of Tobacco is conducting a candidates forum on Aug. 15, starting at 7 p.m. at Bullhead City Middle School, 1062 Hancock Road.

The forum primarily is for candidates for mayor and Bullhead City Council — four candidates are vying for two seats on the panel — but organizer Dean Wenrich, of the Bullhead City BOOOT Coalition, said it may be expanded to include candidates for area school boards.

“Coalitions like ours have done this in other towns and cities across the state,” Wenrich said. “Our primary concern is how they feel about tobacco issues, but the forum will allow for questions to be submitted on any subject and the candidates will each be given an opportunity to respond with their answers.”

The four candidates for City Council are Norma Brummett, Steve D’Amico, Gerald Ross and Annette Wegmann. D’Amico and Wegmann are current councilmembers.
