Student found dead at Grand Valley State U. was freshman
ALLENDALE, Mich. (AP) — A young woman whose body was found outdoors at Grand Valley State University was a first-year student from the Detroit area, authorities said Tuesday.
The cause of Taylor DeRosa’s death remains under investigation, though there’s no immediate threat to the public, GVSU said.
“We have a moral obligation not to spread misinformation that fuels unhelpful suppositions and may hamper the investigation,” President Philomena Mantella said.
DeRosa’s body was found Saturday near campus sports fields. She attended Royal Oak High School, according to a GoFundMe page.
“We lost our beautiful, strong, courageous, smart and sweet Taylor far too soon,” the page says. “Taylor lived a passionate, involved life as an advocate for gun control, Black Lives Matter, women’s rights and a host of other organizations and movements that supported human equality, fairness and truth.”
