Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Scranton
SCRANTON — Police tape ringed the intersection of Broadway and Third Avenue as city police worked to investigate a crash that killed a man Friday night.
A Ford SUV hit the man as he was crossing the street in the 200 block of Broadway at about 7:20 p.m., police Lt. Marty Crofton said on the scene. Emergency medical personnel took the man to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Crofton said.
The man is 28 years old and from Scranton, Lackawanna County Coroner Tim Rowland said in an email. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family, Rowland said.
The incident occurred as the SUV driver traveled west on Broadway, Crofton said. The driver told police he didn’t see the man walk onto the road and struck him, Crofton said.
Further details, such as the name of the driver and whether the man was in the crosswalk where the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail spans the street at the time he was hit, were not available Friday night.
The incident is under investigation, and officers will conduct an accident reconstruction, Crofton said.
No charges were pending against the driver Friday night, Crofton said.
