Detectives investigate fatal shooting of 7-year-old girl
HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl in Wasatch County.
The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said a man called 911 around 10:35 p.m. Friday and said he was taking his daughter to the Heber Valley Hospital, KUTV reported. They said there was a language barrier between the caller and dispatchers.
About 10:50 p.m., dispatchers took another call from someone at the hospital, who reported a 7-year-old girl was in the emergency room with a gunshot wound. The hospital staff reported the girl had died of her injuries around 11:30 p.m.
Deputies responded to both the hospital and the girl’s home in Heber City. When they arrived at the girl’s residence, deputies heard a gunshot from a one of the other apartments. They found three people intoxicated and took them all into custody.
It was not clear if investigators believed the intoxicated individuals were involved in the girl’s shooting.
The Wasatch Back Major Crimes Task Force was called out to determine how the girl was shot.
