Police roundup: Beckley man arrested in connection with Sunday shooting

HUNTINGTON — A Beckley man has been identified as a possible suspect in a shooting that occurred Sunday evening in the 900 block of 27th Street and was arrested on a parole violation Monday afternoon, according to Huntington Police.

A witness said three suspects entered a residence at 938 27th St. on Sunday and shot a man and a dog. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the dog died, according to a news release.

Members of the Huntington Police Department’s Violent Crime and Special Investigations units investigated the shooting throughout the day Monday.

Jerell Maurice Johnson, 30, was arrested on a parole violation after a traffic stop Monday afternoon. Investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence Johnson frequents in the 300 block of 8th Avenue and found a firearm and marijuana, according to the release.

Johnson is at the Western Regional Jail and faces possible charges of being a prohibited person with a firearm stemming from the search warrant on 8th Avenue and wanton endangerment and burglary stemming from the shooting incident on 27th Street.

The shooting incident remains under investigation.

Kierston Rene McIntyre, 25, was jailed at 12:55 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities in Cabell County charged her with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Bond was not set.
