Authorities make arrest in fatal Brockton shooting
BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Brockton last week.
Asa St. Louis, 24, was arrested in Boston over the weekend and charged with the murder in the death Nov. 3 of Nelito Lopes, 28, the Plymouth district attorney’s office announced in a statement Sunday.
The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Boston police located St. Louis in Boston and took him into custody without incident about 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
Lopes was shot at about 9 p.m. last Wednesday.
Brockton police, responding to a car crashing into a utility pole, located the victim inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital before being flown by helicopter to a Boston hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities did not disclose a possible motive for the shooting.
