Police: Officer shot in gunfire exchange after pursuit
RIVERDALE PARK, Md. (AP) — A police officer from a Maryland town was shot and wounded during an exchange of gunfire after a pursuit on Monday night, police said.
Riverdale Park police said the shooting happened around 10 p.m. when the officer tried to stop a vehicle with at least one person inside who was suspected of being involved in an earlier shooting, news outlets reported. The driver fled the scene.
Officers with another jurisdiction put out stop strips that disabled the vehicle near East-West Highway and Taylor Road and two people got out and fired at the officer before running off.
One officer who was shot was treated at a hospital and later released, officials said. Police are searching for the suspects in the shooting.
