MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) — Investigators in Massachusetts are still searching for a Mashpee teenager after a man wanted in her disappearance was shot and killed by U.S. marshals in Florida last week.

New Bedford Police and state police detectives are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Jalajhia Finklea, 18, to contact them, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn’s office said Monday.

Finklea was last seen Oct. 20 getting into a car with Luis Zaragoza in New Bedford. The 37-year-old Florida resident, who also goes by Luis Barbosa, was killed by U.S. marshals in a shootout in Crestview, Florida, on Thursday.

Finklea’s cellphone was last used to call Zargoza and was later found discarded in New Bedford, Quinn said.

Zargoza then drove to Florida, Texas and back to Florida, though none of the surveillance footage obtained so far show Finklea with him, prosecutors said.

U.S. marshals located Zargoza on Wednesday and had been surveilling him before the shooting, Quinn said.

Massachusetts authorities had also obtained an arrest warrant charging him with kidnapping and car theft, he said. Officers had been en route to Florida on Thursday morning when Zargoza was killed by officers in Florida who were attempting to apprehend him, Quinn said.
