Police arrest 23-year-old man over shooting death in Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a 40-year-old man at an apartment complex in northwest Omaha.
The Omaha Police Department said Friday that Julian Lopez was taken into custody without incident. He was booked Friday morning into the Douglas County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and using a weapon to commit a felony.
Nebraska law defines second-degree murder as causing the death of a person intentionally but without premeditation.
The shooting happened just after 12:30 a.m. Friday, when officers were called to a shooting at Tudor Heights Apartments just west of Interstate 680 and north of Maple Street, police said in a news release.
Arriving officers found Jose Valenzuela dead inside an apartment unit. Police have not released other details of the death.
